Full Stack / Ruby on Rails (DHP Platform) (Part Time – Remote)

This is a solo dev role on a healthcare product that is in light active development with periodic feature work.

Must-haves
:
• Ruby on Rails — this is the backend. Needs to be comfortable owning a Rails app end to end, not just contributing to one. Gems for auth, API endpoints, background jobs, the works
• React + TypeScript — front end stack. Patient-facing portal, admin portal, checkout flows
• Postgres — managed instance on Azure, direct database work, writing queries, understanding the data model, patient records, orders, results
• API development and integration — building and maintaining REST APIs that connect to multiple third-party vendors (LabCorp, Lead Squared, Paubox, Stripe, fax service, shipping/fulfillment). Some of these are deeply integrated, some are legacy hardcoded
• Stripe — backend payment integration for kit checkout, not just drop-in components
• Azure — VPS management, SSH, server administration. This is not App Services or containers — it’s a traditional VPS running Rails with manual deployments
• Git / GitHub — branching strategy (feature → staging → master), CI pipeline, manual CD (deployment scripts on the server)

Nice-to-haves
:
• HIPAA awareness — this person will have access to production patient data. They don’t need to be a compliance expert, but they need to understand the gravity and not do dumb things with PHI
• Lead Squared API experience — CRM integration built, syncing lead data, triggering automations
• Athena EMR integration awareness — DHP interacts with Athena for lab orders and patient matching, though most clinical work stays in Athena
• ETL / data pipeline experience — the patient-matching algorithm across DHP, Lead Squared, and Athena was built and feeds Power BI. This person may need to maintain or extend it
• PDF processing — there’s a system that extracts data from semen analysis PDFs and pushes to DHP
• Experience as a solo dev or small team lead — there’s no team to lean on here. This person is making architecture decisions, deploying to prod, and debugging production issues alone

What this person IS doing
:
• Feature development — new programs, new kit types, new checkout flows (cart-based bundling)
• API integrations — building new ones, maintaining existing vendor connections
• Bug fixes and production support — 5-6 production pushes per week currently
• Server and infrastructure management — deployments, server config, database management
• Maintaining the ETL/patient-matching logic that bridges DHP ↔ Lead Squared ↔ Athena

What this person is NOT doing
:
• Power BI work (that’s Role 1)
• Athena EMR administration
• Marketing or CRM campaign management in Lead Squared
